The fact that, as a nation, we respond to the trauma and resilience induced by technological and natural disaster is the primary theme of this paper. As we are able to master our attitudes and unique pressures by assuring ourselves of not just survival, but triumph over adversity, it appears that we can at the same time exhibit the most definitive characteristics of the human condition. The psychological implication in establishing the fact that a disproportionately large number of families who have survived disasters possess the will to conquer and overcome has significant health, educational and social welfare implications.
