1. Introduction

As a highly capable student with a genuine passion for success, I understand the importance of accomplishing my objectives and leading a life full of experiences and fulfillment. I am a hardworking, intelligent and disciplined individual who is keen to take everything that I do to the next level. I am not settling for anything less. I like to have a good time and with my success in high school, I know that I am going to make a difference in my future. However, I know that there are many obstacles that face the line of progress towards accomplishing my academic goals. Financial considerations are poor from getting in the way. Nevertheless, my life experiences have molded me into the kind of person who does not give up at life’s challenges. I want to complete all my goals. I pride myself in taking the right steps at the right time and striving to make my dreams a reality. In this essay, I would wish to write about the importance of giving attention to my studies so that I can secure a successful future for myself.

2. Academic Achievements

I’ve worked hard to maintain a high GPA throughout high school, which I believe has prepared me very well for university. I am proud to have been on the honor roll at my school each quarter, which shows my dedication to my studies. I have also taken a number of honors classes as well as advanced placement classes, which are more challenging and require extra independent work. I believe that the fact that I have done well in these classes has helped to prove my academic ability. Outside of the classroom, I have taken on a number of leadership roles. For example, I am the president of my class and student council, which requires a particular level of dedication, as well as decision-making ability and teamwork. I think that I have clearly shown my leadership and academic ability through being president of these two organizations. Throughout my time in high school, I had and continue to work part-time. My work has taught me the value of money and the value of hard work. Overall, I’m proud of my academic achievements because I believe it is a product of my hard work and dedication. This is just one of the many reasons why I believe that I’d be a great recipient of the scholarship. My goal is to continue my academic career at university, and I really hope that I’ll be able to achieve my dreams with the help of the scholarship.

3. Extracurricular Involvement

Let me be clear: I don’t believe that you have to be a “well-rounded person” to be a successful student. Lots of people who are incredibly focused on their intellectual pursuits or their academic goals, to the exclusion of everything else, are very successful in a school environment. That’s not who I am, though, and it’s not how I’ve ever succeeded. I think that having other interests and outside activities makes me more focused when I am in the classroom, and I believe that this is a trait that I will carry with me throughout my life. When I look at my life and my activities, I think that I deserve the scholarship not only for my academic achievements, but also for my extracurricular activities. I want to continue to contribute, to learn in a variety of ways, and to continue my growth as a person. I have always played an important role in the lives of my peers and in my school in general. This is because I have taken on leadership positions in both the Music and Drama clubs at my school. I quickly established myself as an important member of each group pretty much as soon as I arrived at the school. In the Music Club, I am in charge of all of the management administrative duties. Similarly, I am the lead choreographer in the Drama Club. This leadership role has transferred into my everyday life. I have discovered that I have a great deal of patience and the ability to work through disagreements. I have also discovered that my motto of “teamwork makes the dream work” has applied to every aspect of my academic or personal career. This has helped lead to me inspiring my fellow classmates and those in younger years to become captains and influential leaders in those areas that I can’t. I also believe that my job and personal experiences make me the most viable candidate for the scholarship. I have maintained a job for over two years and also still maintain honor role within my school. I manage to balance my curriculum, my athletic and artistic passion, my job and my home life. I think that the person who created the phrase “life is what you make of it,” would have made it in my agenda book for every assignment I’m giving. I want to show people how to conjure interests and passions in their lives. This is why I believe that I have the most rounded application for this scholarship.

4. Financial Need

Although I have spent my entire life putting the needs of my family before my own, my family’s expenses have limited my college choices and have made it difficult for me to afford a quality education. For instance, my parents cannot contribute to my college expenses, so I have to rely on my own part-time work and am still in need of financial assistance. I work long hours and I am almost done with a large portion of my tuitions, but I still have a large amount of money yet to be paid. It is evident that the family cannot afford to pay for my higher education. With two other children in college already, my parents have little or no contribution to make in my college expenses and I have to fend for my materials. This has put a lot of pressure on me and my education. I am second in the line in terms of college seniority in my family. My older brother is privileged to study in college and his tuition fee is taken care of completely. My parents depend on him for their daily expenses at home and this makes my chances of getting the needed support slim. On the same note, my other brother is undertaking an online degree course in computer engineering. I was thus advised by a local community leader to explore my career based on the need in the profession market. My family income is too high for me to get government support. My parents earn a good income and hence we do not qualify for the majority of grants and other forms of help. My parents are self-employed and their wages vastly vary each month. This means that we cannot rely on a constant level of income. Moreover, the nature of their work makes it difficult for them to spend time to help in family matters. For instance, my parents need constant attention from me and my little sister and brother. I am dedicated to improving our family’s situation. I am trying very hard to improve our financial situation and I have the resolve to achieve my dreams. I have one job and I take up to 12 units on a regular basis. Our monthly expenses are relatively high as we have to pay for a two-bedroom apartment as well as our community daycare. I take my studies very seriously. My mom is not able to work because of childcare obligations and this has worsened our financial situation.

5. Future Goals and Impact

I know that all of my goals and dreams are achievable if I am granted the scholarship that I am asking for. My involvement and work experience in my community has resulted in my focusing more on public interest and the power of social work. I have been extremely involved in my school and town – from leading a youth group, to direct work with the local government, to participating in local events and meetings. Through testimony, I was able to change the law in my state to allow persons with both a mental illness and a developmental disability to be committed and treated. This is just one of many examples of my direct impact. Sometimes, it can be difficult to understand the value of a service project, and my small role – for example, sitting on two non-profit boards – is often devalued by others. However, after being personally thanked by residents who were behalf of a senior center where I installed and taught a programme on computer literacy, I have discovered how directly impactful my work can really be. Nothing will help your future career like the experiences and networking gained from a successful and rich scholarship. With the funds that I hope to receive, I will have the opportunity to study and train in the public policy and or social entrepreneurship field. I am most excited about learning about innovation across the world and learning independence while abroad. My career goal is in criminal law / public policy, and I anticipate the chance to work along side local legislatures and politicians who can like public input – something that I will be trained to provide directly. With the opportunity to work in direct public policy or with social work method advancements, I hope to see the direct impact of my work on not only the state of Connecticut, but also the country as a whole. With the right mind set and work, I am confident that I will be able to succeed and make the results of my efforts long-lasting. My direct goal as my long-term plan is twofold: work hard to obtain the scholarship for which I am applying, and then to establish a non-profit organization that provides for and helps the mentally ill in my community. Without these visions and dreams, I would be permanently unable to provide a valuable service to my home; and at least more importantly, to try to vindicate the injustice and attitude that I see daily against those with mental limitation.
