During my junior and senior year, I volunteered with the local food bank. As a result, I developed a scholarship program for high school students who were in need of financial assistance to continue their education. I would like to commend my friend, Anson Wang, for sharing in this experience and for his contribution to the school system. He too has developed a way to positively impact the community. Together, we have founded the Honor Roll and Volunteer Program (HRVP). This program is designed to create conscientious leaders through community service. In addition to my volunteer work, I also held the position of a math tutor for my high school during my senior year. 3. Future Goals and Aspirations

Throughout my educational experience, I have always been interested in working with people and doing what I can to help others. I have spent the past 13 years working as a school social worker. In this position, I have worked with students with disabilities and their families to improve their school experience. My job is to assist in getting these students the special education services that best fit their individual needs, and to make sure that these students are treated fairly and have the same opportunities as any other student. I know and understand the specific special education laws and how to best advocate for these students. I have built up my knowledge on special education and disability issues throughout my years working as a school social worker. Because of my passion for the field, it is inevitable that I will pursue a degree in special education. This degree will allow me to expedite my efforts and advocate for these students more directly within the school system. My end goal is to work hands-on with students in the special education setting and really make a difference in their lives. This scholarship would help me to achieve my goal of making a difference in the lives of students with disabilities.

4. Reasons for Applying for the Scholarship

When I think of the reasons why I want this scholarship, the first thing that comes to my mind is I deserve this – how do the reasons why I deserve a scholarship not. I am very ambitious and I have high hopes for my future. I am very determined to reach my goal. This scholarship will assist me in reaching my final goal, which is to ultimately get my Bachelor’s in Science and Nursing; this leads me to my next reason. I want to help people, no matter where it is or what I am doing. I hope to instill my drive and ambition to my own children, so that they know that they can do anything they set their mind to. I do not want money to be a reason my kids do not succeed following their dreams. I am the oldest of three children and I have always been the responsible one, the one to set the example. I have always been determined to go to college and get a degree; but it has always been put on the back burner so that I could work to pay for it. I am tired of this; I want to finish what I have started and ultimately show my siblings that anything is possible.

5. Conclusion

Involving real challenges and real solutions gave pieces of information which I believe pretty helpful for those who are about to enter a fascinating journey of higher learning studies. Scholarship essays are not necessarily where hard sell of yourself has to takes place, instead requirement of showing real instances and challenges has to fulfill with the desired solution, and this is where most people failed. They elaborated too much on the solution and not on the real challenge itself, or just simply stating that they could overcome anything without a proper evidence. I hope with my deliberate explanation, many people especially for the students who are about to pursue higher learning with a scholarship can understand of what it takes to write a proper scholarship essays. Remember always bear in mind the purpose of scholarship essays which is one has to justify why they deserve a scholarship for a particular field of study. Make solid references and backing towards your self-claimed that is the best way to persuade the committee and that is the best way to write a scholarship essay. Now it’s time to review some of my peers essays, different writing styles and each individual has their own unique style. My reviewing is based on 3 most important factors on writing a scholarship: the challenges, the solution, and relevance of study with the scholarship. Yu Weng’s essay is not combining two of the latter but rather focus on the solution on pursuing study in pharmacy. The solid cause by illustrating incident involving his elder brother and a friend of the family hence Yu Weng has the urge to understand more about the medication and that happened to be the best explanation in the entire essay. Eizad on the other hand a student of STPM from JB yet to find the real challenge in acquiring the scholarship to study in a local IPTA. His essay is to general with not enough reason for the committee to offer him a scholarship. While me reviewing Eizad’s essay, I felt the challenge that he has is not far from the others but his unique essay format is worth a good mention. Whereas in his essay, the tagline of “what you plant now, you will harvest later” is truly reflecting the importance of his studies in hoping a better future. Step in writing a scholarship essay is completed by Sheila, yet the challenge that she has comes from higher competition with local students. This proved to be a tough situation for her when need to get the scholarship studying overseas, at the same time her parent wants her to move up her education level with local universities. The challenge is clearly stated in her recommendation to AKEPT that do not reduce the number of allocated scholarships to study abroad at the expenses of our future generation.
