They will find that serving can be made easier and more effective and then they will have reached a point where they ask the question: “How can the task that needs to be done best be matched with my unique talents?” This is an exciting juncture in which the sake of all humanity will be progress. These are my goals and this is the task that the scholarship at hand has allowed me to begin. Simply being able to express this is a sort of victory for me.

This is why I came home early from a backpacking trip in Europe after I received news that I was accepted to lead a team abroad. With the conference and AIESEC’s mission still fresh in my mind, this is the perfect time for me to expand my impact in the next step towards becoming a global leader. And thus, with the passion I have for my dream and the inspirational stories both past and present from AIESEC, I know that I will be the most effective participant at the conference as an ambassador and representative from both my local chapter and from MC Canada.

This last summer, I studied in Washington, D.C. in a program designed to help me discover how I could affect a difference in this world. I had classes in public policy, learned more about how our government is run, and met a group of incredibly talented people from all around the country and the world. But the biggest lesson I learned during my summer in D.C. had little to do with the program material, and it was not something I learned from a class lecture. I learned the most about being a changemaker from an AIESECer I was staying with who was interning at the Malaysian embassy. This man jumped on every opportunity possible to make a difference. He told me, “I don’t believe in the concept that we cannot do anything as an intern. With enough determination, we can do great things.” The great amount of determination and passion for change AIESECers manifest is proof of this. This is just one simple example from the thousands of people who are realizing there is no age requirement to enact change. His determination resonated with me, and I knew that with enough passion, I can affect a great difference in this world.
