1. Introduction

The homework assignment book is not an advertisement for the company that publishes it. It is not an expense that the parents should attempt to recapture by reselling it. It is the single most important tool that a student with disabilities can have. It’s probably the single most important tool any student can have. In 26 years and only two exceptions, I have found that a student who has taken the time and used the discipline to write down every homework assignment is an A or a B student. If the student takes the time each night to write down the assignments on the same color post-it that matches the class, the student averages a B. It also makes it easier and faster to turn in homework, tests, and papers. It helps the student to see what’s upcoming and even allows planning – oh, no, a strategy! It’s the planning, the organizing, and one of the most boring habits we have to develop that we do is repetitive take the time to keep this.

I am the parent of a child with learning disabilities and ADHD. I am also a special education advocate. I have worked with a lot of high school students. Their problems aren’t that different from the students of all other ages – they just have to take four or five classes in one day.
