The Benefits of Using a Google Docs Homework Planner Template

1. Introduction

A homework planner is one way a student can organize their schedule with the hope of better managing their workload. It helps to display the tasks a student needs to do and when they are due. One should be able to allocate an appropriate amount of time that they would like to devote to a particular thing. A student should be able to reflect on the planner and determine if the study time allocated is equal, greater, or lesser than that intended to be spent. A homework planner, especially a downloadable template, is a very helpful digital tool. With the help of these digital devices, the user is able to access and utilize the file in different formats like (editable) Word and (print) PDF. Adding a touch of creativity will give you the desired results.

The stress that comes with organizing one’s schedule is a common cause of anxiety in many students, regardless of age. Although multiple strategies can be used to help divide time between school and other activities, not all are ideal for everyone. In any case, time management has always been given lesser priority, especially to young students. Most of the time, parents will fulfill the most important role when it comes to time management, but over time, the child must learn for themselves. They are taught “the ability to maximize work production and minimize procrastination and distractions,” which is basically the essence of time management according to the American Psychological Association Dictionary of Psychology.

2. Organizing Your Homework Tasks

Below is the very top of my Front Page, my most often used page. I’m sure this will change as I enter college but for my high school AP planning purposes, the dates and reminders are super useful. Our school encourages all of our parents to have access to students’ planners and although it seems simple, the beauty of sharing a running To-Do List is a super supporter of that effort. I, too, use this with my students. I require all of my sixth and seventh graders to maintain a Homework Agenda; this is a planner we update every Monday, we keep it on our iPads (hoping they won’t get lost or forgotten at home), share access with our parents so they can keep us organized, and refer back to several times daily.

I know we’ve all heard the phrase “failing to plan is planning to fail” and that mantra rings true with my Google Docs homework planner. I simply copy and paste my parents’ school year calendar, color-code my classes and adjust my planner every week to be sure I’m staying on top of all of my work. I believe students’ lives are initially more complicated than we think but they’re easiest and most successful to those that follow a plan. That routine is helped by having and following a planner so that I know I won’t have any surprises like an unexpected assignment but rather am prepared for what’s to come.

3. Collaborating with Peers and Teachers

To me, the act of filling in my homework planner at the beginning of my day is a culmination of everything I have the privilege of being a part of academically. Balancing AP Government note deadlines with IB IA requirements with club meetings with meals is both important and rewarding. With Google Docs’ abilities for collaboration, I think we could further the sharing of information in positive ways, but the best example I could find of this was a Clemson professor using OneNote.

As for talking to other students about upcoming assignments, I think this could also be possible if all the homework planners remained on Google Docs. Open communication could be had with everyone about when the first big project is going to be due, or when the next chapter’s worth of homework should be done. I have to admit, I am making a lot of conjectures with very limited data, and the top priority of any homework planning system should be perpetuating the pride a user takes in owning a system he or she can be proud of.

I helped create that Google Docs form for my IB Geography class. I think it would be cool sharing a similar Google Docs form with the teachers to be able to talk about all our upcoming assignments and quizzes so we can easily avoid having multiple “major” assignments, tests, or quizzes due on the same day all the time.

Having an organized homework planner is critical for my academic success, and I wouldn’t change my system for anything. I did, however, identify possible areas for improvement when it comes to using a planner. The first, which I will discuss in this guest post, is the possible benefits of filling out my homework planner template on the Google Docs platform. The second is scalingly distributing information from my planner to everyone who needs to know what I have going on during the day. And the third is the possible benefits of collaborating with teachers and students about upcoming assignments.

4. Tracking Progress and Deadlines

Eradicate the likelihood of overlooking an important task at the last minute. Add all the tasks to the timetable that need to be accomplished by a certain date when you discover that, at the last minute, you are nearly out of time. Make simple formatting changes to indicate timetable conditions. This allows you to concentrate on the tasks you need to complete and ensures that none are overlooked. Instead of going through the minefield of mental notes and reminders to remember what each teacher told you, stay on track and gather up your coursework on one easy-to-find platform.

Make meeting deadlines more manageable by using the Google Docs homework planner template to keep track of what needs to be done and when. To create a schedule, select the Google Sheets page with a blank curriculum. You can then input your courses and the tasks you have to accomplish, along with their due dates. As needed, color code the schedules. Before every quarter, a complete to-do roster shows how long it will take to finish any given assignment. This allows you to start working on homework with sufficient time to complete it.

5. Conclusion

You should not feel like you’re being tied down or confined in a small space; in fact, a well-structured plan or calendar could help with the workload. This may be an even greater advantage for those having trouble organizing their educational needs during COVID-19. A learning planner will designate a set time for what needs to be done. Therefore, you’re not left defenseless and struggling to figure out what should be accomplished out of six or more busy pages before it’s due. Are you planning or have been tested on the Theorem of Pythagoras? Maybe some problems and solutions are due next week. With the right filtering in place, that A+ should not be too far off!

The benefits of using the Google Docs Homework Planner template largely outweigh the short amount of time it takes to put one together. This is a great tool for those who are looking to get more organized, save time, and set out to achieve a goal. Whether it’s for the entire family or just yourself, you’ll find that using a homework planner app will help you keep track of work. Templates can make it much easier to create a planner, especially when the template is already formatted and tailored just for students. Those who plan on attending a college or university, and beyond, should use this tool as second nature by now. They’re available online, free, and you’ll also be able to edit it to your specific needs. For example, a parent might not use the “Time” section as much as a child might, who needs to log in times for video calls.
