Many faculty are travelers who go to academic conferences and often give presentations at other universities. Even when they travel, they need to manage their information, including teaching materials and class administration, as well as personal matters being managed for receipts, reimbursement, banking, as well as travel planning.

UCSBgold is a web-based system that integrates faculty, staff, and student systems such as Human Resources, Financials, Campus Solutions, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and a few libraries together. Users not only can see their information from different systems in UCSBgold but can perform business processes such as changing personal information, setting up or changing direct deposit accounts, getting benefits summaries, reporting time (for student employees), and registering for classes, etc. However, faculty and staff must have access to UCSBgold to see their information or live in UCSB Tehama campus to use UCSBgold on the lab computer. So we decided to develop an application called UCSB Phone that allows faculty and staff to view their information from different systems in UCSBgold using their smartphones anytime and anywhere. To use UCSB Phone, faculty and staff must be on the list of UCSB Phone whenever their data is chosen to be viewed. We will conduct a usability expert evaluation and a field study in the summer of 2015 with UCSB faculty to obtain their feedback.
