The Importance of Dissertation Writing in London
Students need to understand that the dissertation is the last impression of their knowledge and the academics on the teacher that is usually their mentor as well as the external examiner. So it is going to be stored in their minds. They are the only ones to decide and pick the topic for their research. They can choose it from the syllabus they have been through from school or college time. Or they can look for the society and the surroundings and observe the issues people are facing. Then they can move to the topic. This is known as the teaching approach; the second one is known as problem solving.
The dissertation is the last phase of the Masters degree before they get their degree on Masters educational level. Here starts the critical time for the student because at this point they have to be extremely professional and attentive to their work. The dissertation writing is very important for the academic and professional future of the students. When the students are going to start doing the dissertation, they need to have a strong base and basic knowledge of the topic and have a good planning of how to do the things and achieving the goals. They need to be dedicated and focused towards the work and do their best.
Budget and time are important factors to consider. A dissertation is an assessment included in the degree, but the main goal for most students is obtaining the diploma, with the degree serving as a stepping stone to their dream job. The typical UK student must self-finance their higher education, and with the recent student loan interest rates, many students who have the potential to complete a degree are now looking to finish sooner. This creates a difficult decision regarding whether the student can afford to spend more time on the dissertation. Finally, there is the option of extended degrees, where the annual fees are equivalent to standard degrees. Many students choose to take on a fifth academic year, but the new fees do not apply until the fourth year.
Meeting the expectations of the tutor and obtaining the degree requires the use of statistical analysis, which is the most common method used by tutors. However, tutors often find it difficult to explain this method to students, resulting in many students failing to understand and performing inappropriate analyses for their projects, leading to poor grades. Understanding the tutor and conducting the correct analysis is challenging, and the only solution is to have a lengthy discussion with the tutor to avoid wasting time on incorrect analyses that will need to be redone later. Distance learning students face even greater difficulties in this regard, as they have limited access to their tutor and may never meet them. This is also true for PhD students, as they need to have their findings approved by their tutor or supervisor. It is well known that many UK universities have a high proportion of international students, making it difficult to find a UK student willing to provide freelance assistance in explaining concepts at the tutor’s level, especially considering today’s hourly rates.
One of the major challenges faced by Western students, especially international students, is explaining their results and findings in their second language. Regardless of the word processor used, it is almost certain that the document will contain spelling and grammatical errors. Correcting these mistakes can be a lengthy process. For non-native English speakers, particularly Asian students, this is the second major problem they are likely to face. Additionally, universities show leniency towards students with English language difficulties, providing positive discrimination. Therefore, one must decide whether to improve their English to the highest standard and eliminate these disadvantages by facing short-term hassle, or to maintain a language level just good enough to scrape by and face these disadvantages for a longer period until completing the degree. The answer to this question determines the time required to obtain the degree.
Plan and scheduling: Much time can be wasted and stress created if a vague plan is made and not specified in writing. Plans should be revised a number of times, each time creating a more detailed blueprint which will allow you to work in a clearer and more organized manner and save time later. Remember to allocate time for other university and personal commitments. Take a good hard look at deadlines and set a realistic timetable for the completion of various stages of the project.
Selecting and defining a manageable research topic: Carefully consider your topic and try to narrow it down to a specific area of interest within the specific subject area. This may take weeks. Then spend more time defining the exact area of research and what form this will take. This may change during the course of the research so do not feel this is set in stone. Only when you know the exact nature of the problem you are trying to solve can you begin to plan the paper. If the scope of the topic is too large to be covered in a paper of the length required, it is better to focus your efforts on a more specific aspect of the topic. This is a common mistake in research papers.
Remember that successful completion of a dissertation is a process, and that it can be broken down into a number of strategies and tactics at the beginning of writing and then later when it comes to checking and proofreading the document. Time spent thinking through the following issues will be time well spent.
The benefits of doing a dissertation in London are twofold. First, you will experience one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world where you can interact with individuals from all walks of life. In particular, your research will gain unique insights in a setting with a culturally rich tapestry where doing a demographic study on a small immigrant community can present data as diverse as the various nationalities and ethnicities of its members. Conducting interviews or participant observation would be particularly interesting for you can engage with people from all over the world. For example, a medical study can gain deeper understanding when learning firsthand of various healthcare practices from around the world. Although healthcare practice in London may be similar to what is found in the US, talking to a Jamaican immigrant may uncover some information a traditional study may miss due to a differing cultural perspective. With regard to public observation, understanding the behavior of different groups will be more broad and dynamic than in other cities. A study of youth crime may be particularly interested when you see the vast array of cultures in a place like Harlesden where you can compare the experiences of Caribbean and African immigrant youth with those of various young white.
The purpose of this thesis was to explore the meanings and manifestations of ‘development’ in the lives of young people in a village in the interior of Sarawak. Drawing on in-depth qualitative fieldwork, conducted over a period of twelve months, I have highlighted the complex and multi-layered nature of development and changes among the Kelabit youths. Within this period, I have tried to convey a sense of village life and Kelabit young people, so that readers can understand what development means from their perspective. The general aim was to problematize mainstream understandings of development through this grounded study in a local context. In doing so, I think it is important to consider how development from above is understood and translated into locally meaningful terms. Often national and international level policies are assumed to be universally applicable, yet the reality is that interpretations of development are context specific with its various effects and meanings mediated through local agents. Specifically, it is important to identify what Kelabit youths think development and progress entails for their lives. For some there is a desire to further or ‘modernize’ their indigenous traditional culture and others wish to seek a more material progress with various aspirations to uplift their current livelihoods. In any case, the changing socio-political landscape of Malaysia presents its own Development/Wawasan 2020 vision and goals which young people are subject to, and often ‘development’ is resigned to migration to urban areas or out migration from the highlands to elsewhere. My research has attempted to document the diversities of these perspectives and seeks to provide a platform where they can be heard in discussions of national and regional development where youth voices are often marginalized. It is through understanding these local terms of development that we can begin to critically assess the implications and undesirable effects of broader scale development interventions and policies in localities such as Bario—this will be the focus of the next two chapters.
