Indeed, we find that treatment is more beneficial when the class is taught by a professor who is teaching the course for the first time or who signed up for Chegg as an afterthought; when most Q&A inquiries are placed hours or days before the due dates of the homework question rather than minutes before the due date; when the exam is difficult and when the questions closely resemble homework problems. This section offers possible explanations for why these features are correlated with treatment effects and presents concrete examples on how professors may modify their teaching style and the structure of the course and homework that can maximize the benefits from Chegg.

First, why don’t some students benefit from the use of Chegg? One possibility is that some students are using Chegg as a shortcut to avoid learning while others use it to learn by working with Chegg solutions. Additionally, despite the fact that high integrity students are willing to engage in time-consuming activities to indicate their earnest intention by solving problems on their own, the perceived threat of noncompliance with the Honor Code pledges still discourages many students from accessing the Q&A service. Of course, it is also possible that Chegg Homework Help is less helpful in some generals, especially in classes where other resources are more readily available or where active problem solving, with/without assistance, is most informative.

5. Conclusion and Recommendations

In this study, we examine the impact of Chegg Homework Help on students’ academic performance. We use multiple tests based on student outcomes in Clifton College, a private boarding school in Wales. Each student is assigned an academic target at the start of the academic year, and tutor reports, academic grades, and overall sport and music scores are recorded in a holistic report for each student three times a year. Our results indicate that the use of Chegg Homework Help has a significantly positive impact on student outcomes, particularly for students studying science, and especially for low-achieving students. This finding may be partly because their demand for homework help is higher than that of high-achieving students, so they extract greater benefits from the availability of Chegg Homework Help.

We regard this finding as informative and relevant for further policy implications, such as enhancing cost-effective usage of Chegg Homework Help resources to improve student academic performance. Our analysis of the competitive ability of the model on Clifton College’s tutor-tutor communication learning platform shows the adaptability and efficiency of Chegg Homework Help, and Clifton College highly evaluates the model. These findings shed light on the role of online tutoring services, which has implications for both individual schools and policy when considering the effective use of school-level resources. With the introduction of new technology, Chegg Homework Help—Competition can be used for various Algebra level practice tasks in high schools and universities. District leaders, school leaders, and teachers should consider each learning level and adopt a more personalized learning model when introducing this model.
