1. Introduction

The book club segment will give users the opportunity to organize a book club. They can schedule the club by specifying the date and time. They need to RSVP for the event. After the event is over, they will be able to provide a review about the event and the number of people who attended. This will help them monitor the book club. They can add members to the event from the invite part. They can select the individual’s name from the combo box and add them to the event. This will avoid the hassle of informing everyone about the event. This will make the book club segment easy to understand.

Book Review App is an Android web-based application which is intended to give book reviews and information about the best vendors to the user. This application is specifically designed for book lovers. The book readers will have the ability to learn about the books and the authors in detail. This application provides users with details about a large number of available books. Users can search for books based on their genre. They can select the best sellers category and explore the books. They will be able to obtain a lot of information in that category. Each book will have a review, which will give users an idea of what the book is all about. This will help users decide which book they want to read. They can simply enter the name of the book in the search box and get all the information about the book.

6. Edit and delete review: Users should be able to edit or delete reviews posted by them. This again is an important feature as a user’s perception about the book may change with time and learning, or the user may accidentally post the wrong review.

5. User authentication and authorization: In order to achieve data integrity, security is of paramount importance. Users should have a unique username and password to log in to the app. This also helps maintain the secrecy of the review visible only to the person writing and friends or a group of people. The authorization should also limit the users from posting or getting reviews for books that belong to a specific genre, or the authorization can be in the form of giving read-only access to the users.

4. POST and GET review: The users should be able to post and get book reviews. This feature also allows the users to decide whether to provide the review right away or read reviews posted by others about the same book.

3. Search facility: The most basic feature of our app will be to provide the search facility to the users. They should be able to search for books using various search criteria like book name, author name, genre, etc.

Bookophilia is a community-building initiative to provide assistance to readers across the globe and connect and socialize. We are planning to incorporate the features in various phases. However, the first phase encompasses the basic functionalities with an essence of simplicity. Following are the feature expectations of the Book Review App:

3. User Experience

After downloading and installing the Book Review App from the Google Play Store, I wondered what I was in for. The bright colors and Windows 8-like appearance of Book Review were a bit intimidating to me. What first struck me as odd was the “bookshelf” homepage; to my knowledge, the only people that use bookshelves are able to afford to have an actual library, and therefore do not require the use of a mobile app to find book reviews. Ignoring this useless feature, I wondered where to go next, and then I saw the “Groups” button. That was the point where I fell in love with the app. Being able to read and review a lot of the same books with your friends is a different type of experience than the usual book club where one book has to be chosen and agreed upon. Before getting into a weekly event with my buddies, it was not something that I would have thought I would really like, but the ability to read a book at my own pace and in my own free time while still keeping in touch with my friends to discuss the book is definitely something that the future has in store for casual readers. The next bump in the road was trying to add books to my “library”. There is a small search button in the top right corner (it is not in the usual Holo form). If you click on that, it will allow you to type into a text box to search a book. Unfortunately, this search bar is extremely unreliable, and I only managed to find the book once (I was searching for Game of Thrones) after about 6 attempts using the title, partial title, and the author’s name. The search function needs a lot of work, but there is a fail-safe “add custom book” feature that allows you to manually type in the title, author, and genre of the book, which is definitely a good alternative to the search function.

4. Benefits

Children get a great deal of practice in how to express thoughts and feelings from writing book reviews. It is however, important to encourage positive feedback, rather than negative, when marking book reviews. This will give it a chance to look at the book in a different light and may make the child realize the book was good, after all. Giving the child the opportunity to share their book review online will also encourage them to use ICT and multimedia as they strive to find ways to make their reviews more attractive and interesting. The database behind the scenes may also be used to generate reports comparing reading enjoyment to a pupil’s literacy level. This kind of analysis is useful when identifying students who are under or overachieving. Finally, the review search engine may also be used to improve library stock procurement policies by identifying the most and least popular books. All of this adds up to a useful resource, allowing teachers to encourage the benefits of reading a good book.

In conclusion, our project, Book Review App, has provided utility in the Android platform to help out book readers in selecting a book of their interest. It provides a more personalized experience for readers looking to find books on the Google Play Store. Users input book genres and see top-rated books within those genres. Users can rate books on their personal desirability, and the app will begin to recommend books for the user based on their personal preferences. We have used a content-based recommendation system through which we provide a list of the best-matched books according to their respective authors and genre from the database. In the near future, we tend to include more books by enhancing the current database, which may include e-books that are free to download. Another approach would be an online book price comparison service. Using the ISBN or barcode of a book, users will be able to access price information from online bookstores. This service will provide users with price information for new and used books, as well as price information for e-books and audiobooks. This app could serve as one central location for users to access all price information for a single book. The main highlight of our app is its simplicity, a user-friendly environment, and service that is directed towards everyone ranging from teenagers to elders. The app does what it is supposed to do by allowing users to make a more guided book purchase decision while providing practical and time-saving book selections. Overall, the app can be a very valuable tool for frequent book readers looking to save money on books. Although the app is fairly simple and easy to use, future modifications will continue to increase the value of using this app to find books on the Google Play Store.
