The art printing industry developed with the purpose of providing wide access to attractive, low-cost images. These attainable resources were within reach of broad segments of the general public. Historical circumstances have had a different impact on both the production of and public interest in prints. Printed images and their creation have been an essential part of human culture since ancient times. The printing technique using blocks became widespread in the Far East, and it is known that the Japanese became familiar with the method of line printing. It is possible that traders trading with the Far East brought prints and woodblocks with them in the 15th century. These paintings would become known as blatnum, but about a century later, the limitation resulting from being unique and never being able to be reproduced led to the stunt growth of this artistic form.
