Capstone Experiences in Nursing Nursing capstone projects are growing in popularity as final culminating experiences in undergraduate and graduate nursing education. This capstone policy, driven by institutional and accreditation requirements and faculty members’ desires to shift from testing knowledge to demonstrating learning, is one of five expected program outcomes articulated by the typical Department of Nursing capped baccalaureate program. The five expected outcomes suggest how and why to give final, refined, and synthesized evidence of program outcomes through capstone. Appropriately, there is some flexibility in the report format based on the nature of your project. At a minimum, your report should have the following components: a title page, an “executive summary” (at the beginning of the report) that you write after everything else is done but goes at the very beginning of your paper, an introduction, a literature review, a methods section, a results section, a discussion section (combined with the results section for many projects), and references. Depending on the nature of your capstone project, you might also need to include other sections in the report or change the order in which they appear.
