Perhaps such advances would alleviate mankind’s many problems. It is possible, or even probable, that not all beings coming to Earth will harbor peaceful intentions.

We are not transparent; in 2012, there are so-called secret matter and conditions regarding what life is in our Galaxy. The societal and cultural place of alien beings is an interesting mirror of current thought – respected people and serious politicians would have been embarrassed to reveal their knowledge in previous social eras and scientific cultures. It is not even sure that this serious disclosure validated by “extraterrestrial evidence” would initially solve the UFO problem and popular expectations. The problem is that each new UFO solution could create novel cultural value changes. The anthropological evolution of culture and religion are not dictated by pure logical reasoning as fuzzy logic and emotional effects are always involved.

Inadvertently, by refusing to address potential implications, current society is effectively embracing a form of the status quo. Emergencies widely arise on such a subject if the subject matter is in part or in sum discounted as potentially non-existent.

The implications of U.S. President Barack Obama and governmental officials acknowledging the existence of not only intelligent extraterrestrial life but also potentially of their incremental interaction with modern day humanity are numerous and comprehensive and are intricately interwoven. As modern day scientists search for technosignatures and technologically advanced extraterrestrial life prepare to do the same, modern day humanity faces ethical and moral considerations including property rights, interactions with less technologically advanced extraterrestrials, governance and more as it relates to extraterrestrial life. These interwoven implications of confirming the existence of extraterrestrial intelligence at their essence have humanity explore its own identity and its place in an ever expanding universe. As a society unable to agree on the ethical and moral implications of many issues often in heated debate, the sooner these implications are addressed, the more prepared humanity will be to engage with possible extraterrestrial life in a thoughtful, open and respectful manner, incorporating all of the perspectives of global society.
