Effective Strategies for Writing a Successful TSI Essay

1. Introduction to the TSI Essay

The TSI (Texas Success Initiative) Assessment is a program designed to help students determine if they are ready for college-level coursework in the general areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. A typical TSI placement assessment will include up to 12 multiple-choice questions and two to four written essays that are awarded foundation points for editing. To help the college provide effective instruction, students are sometimes asked to write an essay. Over the years, it has been determined that writing a TSI Assessment essay is the best way to prepare students for the success and level of involvement required of them in traditional college-level programs. In this way, each student brings his or her best efforts as students and as consumers of institutionally-based assistance to the task of developing socially and academically responsible students.

The two essays are designed to measure linguistic and oral skills and also to test the writing ability of the candidates. Candidates completing multiple-choice questions, writing two essays, and a listening portion will find themselves placed in multiple participation categories. The critical thinking challenge focuses on literary questions that pertain to the major work(s) the students have read throughout the year. We strive to help students integrate their social, cultural, and academic motivation and focus on their local, national, and universal development by helping them to take their individual, cultural, national, and universal environment into the collective academic and professional world.

2. Understanding the Prompt and Requirements

Understanding the prompt is of the first importance. To help you understand the prompt and write an essay, I am going to use a question that you should use to write the essay. Question: Why are essays always given as homework? You will be given a topic only. You are expected to write the essay below. The TSI essay will be evaluated on organization, development, and quality. You will have 30 minutes to write your essay. The TSI essay will be evaluated and scored. The moment you read an essay prompt, many ideas seem strange to the brain and one of the reasons is that you may not be prepared to write a meaningful essay. You should fight this fear by making up your mind to be prepared by reading essay examples. This way, you will understand the TSI writing assessment and knowledge of the components can help in writing your essay. You need essay examples in order to organize your essay.

It can be helpful to think of the essay as an exam, which the reader must pass. A student is asked to write a 300-400 word essay on a topic drawn from the list of designated topics used in the TSI placement test. The list of four topics covers the areas of an essay, namely Education, Work, Life, and Community. The first part of the test requires students to read five passages. You will click on the best position for the sentence in each passage. The TSI essay will be evaluated on the qualities of organization, development, and clarity. It should be about 300-600 words and have a proper structure.

3. Structuring Your Essay for Clarity and Coherence

In terms of the first point, this opening statement of the conclusion can support it. If you have another point that you would like to make, then write a different paragraph or body to cover the second point.

After the introduction, there should be a few body paragraphs. Make sure they provide an overview of the main point. Each body paragraph should begin with a topic sentence that lists your point; it will be introduced in this and provide evidence to back up the argument. At least 5-7 sentences should be included in each paragraph. They are both explanatory and convincing. Make sure all the evidence is explained clearly and effectively. A thesis statement is repeated when concluding the paragraph.

In the opening paragraph, you should present the main point. In this case, your thesis statement can be the answer to the question. After this, include 2-3 introductory statements, which realistically or theoretically can prove your first point. This is followed by a thesis statement, which reveals your point of view and gives a summary of the evidence which will appear in the essay body.

Now that you have your ideas in order, here’s a blueprint for how to organize the TSI essay. It is both efficient and easy to write an essay. You should follow the five-paragraph essay formatting while writing. To structure an essay effectively and logically, it is essential to have a clear thesis statement and supporting paragraphs.

4. Incorporating Strong Evidence and Examples

Use problem to be to think about how you can make each paragraph flow from the last. Students should strive to illustrate their ideas with examples that ideally the reader has not heard before. As an official scorer and college professor, I have been disappointed to read thousands of essays that use the same examples even though we ask scorers to assign an extra 0 point for using new examples. However, some example sources to consider could include your own personal experiences, readings, events throughout our history, and current events. And I encourage you to look for new topics or different ways of analyzing common concepts. Try using memory, website recently, and the news as resources. Switching to this approach of including evidence as you develop ideas and writing many examples for each paragraph should help you to score much better on the TSI Essay.

We all know that when you write an essay, you need to include a topic sentence, an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. But, often it is the use of strong evidence and vivid examples that really helps a scoring essay. So, how do you include these things in your essay? Think of examples as filler while you are developing your essay. Being able to write many examples of each paragraph is very important for your success on a TSI Essay. Here are three quick tips for writing lots of examples: Not every idea needs to be a big, complicated picture. Find examples in your life and in the lives of others.

5. Crafting a Compelling Conclusion

In your conclusion, you should wrap up all of the ideas or points you have made throughout the essay. You should do this in a way that brings resolution and meaning to your paper. Do not just summarize your essay, but instead focus on communicating the essence. Conclusions, like introductions, are often difficult to write, but they don’t have to be complicated if you’ve planned your essay out well. Use the ideas that you identified in your brainstorming or prewriting to make a meaningful and compelling conclusion. The best way to learn how to write and refine your conclusion is to read those in other authors’ successful pieces. How do they deliver a sense of completeness and finality? How do they invite you to think or act in a way that extends the author’s ideas and knowledge? With time and writing practice, your conclusion will also do this, making your essay more successful.

When writing a conclusion, it’s important to remember that this is your last chance to persuade your reader. You don’t want to just abruptly end your essay, especially if it is a high stakes essay – like the TSI essay. However, you also don’t want to continue adding words just to add words. You should always make every word count. An effective conclusion is succinct, but packed with quality information. A great goal is for your reader to feel like your conclusion was satisfying and thought-provoking.
