The Importance of a Monthly Homework Planner

1. Introduction

First, homework is one of the most common student learning experiences. Elementary school children regularly have homework, and students in middle and high school report spending more than a few hours a week on their assignments. In addition, young children generally view homework as fun. The diary project showed that unlike some other daily experiences – such as dentist visits or bath time – children and parents seemed happy to share photographs and brief comments about homework together. Our goal is to leverage what makes homework enjoyable and productive for the supported child for the development of new interventions. Our project’s focus is on using what is already working well in learning support. Even though the project participants are children and adults, we hope that this perspective is in line with our young ones who hinted at some positive aspects of skill development, opportunity to complete travel moments, and others.

Twice a year, we publish the supported child’s work time, giving us an opportunity to understand how supported by adults the child’s learning process was in both school and non-school times. Understanding who is responsible for the unseen, quiet work of learning, for example homework, is important to our research goals. Our ongoing work focuses specifically on homework at home – which includes reviewing, editing, and support of learning sessions outside of the classroom. We prioritize this area of learning support for a few reasons.

As part of our research, we conducted a study asking 166 parents and children (average age 8) to take photographs of their daily experiences. These “day in the life” narratives followed up on a previous analysis we published, in which we looked at the homework help processes of parents who were supporting their child’s learning.

Research shows that some students regularly receive higher amounts of homework than experts recommend, which may cause stress and negative health effects. For kids in first grade, that means 10 minutes a night, while high school seniors could get two hours of work per night. Experts say there may be real downsides for young kids who are pushed to do more homework than the “10-square rule.”

2. Benefits of Using a Monthly Homework Planner

Students may already be using an organization planner for other school activities and to help manage tasks at home. By having one place to write everything down, you will be developing a study routine that balances school, work, and fun. Finding time to take breaks, hobbies, go to workout, and participate in social events is an essential part of doing well at school. When students are able to manage this time, they will start to appreciate the life of learning. Getting students an official school planner at the beginning of the school year is a tradition for most schools. This planner tends to be small and hardly gives students the space to track assignments by subject matter. A large calendar where assignments, class tests, and projects are planned to be completed at home is perfect for everyone. Holding students accountable for having it signed each night by parents will establish a ritual of planning and maintaining the structure.

The main advantage of using a monthly homework planner is that a student may easily see when tests and assignments are due. A second benefit is that it can bring stress levels down. Whenever a student focuses on his or her planning, the information is actively reviewed by the brain and will be much easier to recall. The third benefit is the method adopted to schedule the time required for studying and school projects. Finally, another benefit of a planner is that it keeps your child accountable for the individual education cycle. Careful planning is done to make sure that the work is not set up all together. By practicing the skill of pacing out academic work, it will lead your child to be more flexible and balanced regarding their work. This will help them when it comes time to take their steps into the work world. A company is often much more impressed in balance and self-motivation than a perfect GPA.

3. How to Create an Effective Monthly Homework Planner

2. THE WORK: Now, it’s time to start writing. I tend to block out a lot of time for this part. You have to take your time because you do not want to have to do this two months. Knowing what your school has in store is essential. Work is manageable once it is known. The first step that I take for outlining my work for the monthly homework due is by using my syllabus. For every class, I write down the following information. The title of the course at the very top, then I list all the assignments given out during the month with the dates they are due, all of them. If any other assignments have been spoken of but are not on the syllabus, add those too. You want to make sure you list it all. Now, you want to look up and write down, when the projects are due. Every time I learn of new information on my homework assignments, I add them to my planner.

1. STUDENT RESOURCES: Before you start, I would encourage you to really think about what resources as a student you need. What institutions offer resources to you as a student? For most of us, there is a system of resources in our schools to help us. Our guidance counselors, for example. In college, we have academic advisors. As a student, using the resources available to you is essential to being successful in school. Do not be afraid to use these resources. In the end, it is your success and satisfaction in school that is at stake. Give yourself the best chance.

To be realistic, in today’s digital world, you do not necessarily need a paper monthly homework planner. Although, I love my planner – writing down my monthly assignments, crossing each one out when they’re done, and getting a sense of accomplishment. The real point is for you to find a system that works for you and that you will stick to. That is something that only you can determine. Below, here are 4 steps to help lead you to creating a homework system that will work for you.

4. Tips for Using and Maintaining a Monthly Homework Planner

For children of all ages, the debate over the importance of homework revolves around the parent’s dictum of how a child spends his time at home. The monthly homework planner helps students meet personal academic goals by making it possible to update and/or modify accommodations made in the classroom. Using a planner for simple organizing can be a helpful resource in order to guide through planning big projects. The choice of which tools to use remains with each individual teacher, while it is the role of the teacher to provide alternative methods of assignment organization, which includes a designated area for success. In order to track due dates for your big projects, using a calendar may also help clarify assignment details. For students to help facilitate motivation, encouraging your child to add motivating words and stickers to his big project planner or paraphernalia is something else to consider. When needed, this task should help the student stay engaged and interested in the assignment.

Frequently used as a visual aid in the classroom, but designed for students to organize their work at home, a monthly homework planner is available on many websites. An example is the worksheet of the Center for the Encouragement of Learning, which is six weeks long going onto the seventh. The included configuration allows students to track the number of assignments from a starting and ending date range. A separate space is dedicated to providing work details. For many children, it is no secret that school is “big business” and comes with a price tag. With all of our important assignments, how can we expect kids to keep track of what is due and when homework is justified in the deluge of after-school activities and ongoing family stress.

5. Conclusion

But an organized student’s homework planner will mean nothing if homework isn’t completed within the planner’s structure. Easyslanda may be as organized and committed of a student as it is possible to be, but at some point, words need to receive completion to be actual homework, and to-do’s need to receive this work’s completion to be removed from the to-do list. Still, aside from the effort that to complete these tasks isn’t a requirement. A sweet statue, no work at all, just homework assignments sitting within Easyslanda and all is done. Yes, assignment completion would be a requirement, and finishing the last one is what would mean work needs to be done. But no previous action on the student’s part will have been an influence. So the final part of Easyslanda is to breathe, even when time does not allow for additional work to be of much help, and be an influencer of good choices.

When starting with a fresh track every day, work manages to get accomplished, and a lot of that has to do with the layout of a planner. A student might lose paper planners or neglect to take it out, not so with digital organization completed at nearly every computer where typing is allowed, many of which aren’t even the student’s own. Homework and to-do’s that were once forgotten and need longer to finish now are being put at the student’s fingertips in the morning. But even when using the Internet for note-taking or keeping projects stored altogether on a Windows 7 computer, it will be next to impossible to leave a homepage layout blank on the day that the assignment is due and expect to finish. A reminder to plan well is a result of the physical effort required to leave space in a binder for something important to be stored there. The ease with which an assignment otherwise is forgotten is removed.
