1. Introduction

Reflection is a vital skill for developing nursing practice, with the intention of assessing and examining one’s own ways of working (McGarry, 2002). The case study came from a visit to a Castle Meadow Care Home, where there were two males, Howard and Dave. I had the opportunity to spend time and talk to Howard. It was a very educational and emotional experience for me, as Howard was a very intelligent man at the age of 85 and had lived an extraordinary life, having fought in the world war, but now suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.
