The Impact of Oyster Book Review

1. Introduction

The author of this article, “The Impact of Oyster Book Review,” is working as part of his job to definitively characterize the return on investment in assessment of products. There is an analogy used of a consumer wandering through a market, sampling the wares. This is very similar to his job, determining if an analyst should investigate a tool or purchase a subscription to it by trial or sample usage of the product. But before we can answer this question from his personal experiences, what is the impact of oyster? Will it provide the necessary evidence to clarify a wise purchase for an extended period (in oyster terms, sustainability of a settled organism to maintain on the substrate)? Fundamentally, this paper bridges a gap between the oyster ecology field and modern day economics of product assessment in creating a synthesis of evidence on the impact of an oyster book review. This analysis was performed under the guidance of Dr. Longum Li, and we should note that the word “oyster” in the coming context may also mean “bivalve or hard clam” because in reality, there is often misconstruing of a term originally assigned for an oyster project. Now when thinking of economics for today’s world, it is too easy to stray to the Keynesian way, but we will not delve into the Great Depression era oyster economics because that is a whole different analysis in itself. What does provide a helpful parallel is considering today’s oyster revival to the inflation of currency. Essentially, there is an increase in combating aquatic resource issues through ecological projects, and in order to draw attention to this work, there has been integration of social sciences and humanities to promote public interest and involvement in aquatic stewardship and conservation. This in itself is just a confusing way to say a new product is being advertised for the interest of the public. The point of this project is to see if there is a product advertisement through book review publication that has the potential to pique consumer interests and gain product usage via increased readership.

2. Benefits of Oyster Book Review

One of the main advantages of the Oyster review to a publisher is the potential to reach new readers. This can be seen as trying to tap into a non-consuming oysters population by showing them the value of oysters. In the consumer market, there are currently 1.4 million people purchasing 17 books a year. 106 million people do not read at all. The goal is to try to convert these non-consuming populations into loving readers. This mirrors the review of the oyster project in trying to convert the non-consuming population. “Another key justification for placing resources on efforts to reach the 2 billion people who live on less than $2 a day in ways that can influence the education of their children.” High-income talk about is embedded in reading and writing, that we must try to promote in lower-income societies to affect their education. These accelerated countries may never be reached through a traditional paper book but are increasingly becoming more technologically advanced. So the more the high-consuming population takes to reading books using oysters, the more it will influence the development of a reading culture globally and thus reach these economies. A usability study was conducted by Oyster, which monitored how readers used different sources to find books. The data showed there is a gap in the market for a book recommendation website, especially one that does not just compare books by price but by content. Often readers wanted their friends to recommend books, so they preferred to use the word-of-mouth recommendation option on Oyster. This was particularly prevalent in female users aged 18-30. The study goes on to show possible areas to improve the recommendation engine, which directly act on benefits to the publisher, trying to optimize the positioning of their books. There are also opportunities to localize Oyster markets outside the US to enhance the user experience of readers. And those two further globalize the company Oyster research suggests fans of foreign language books, who are not necessarily native speakers, could be big users of Oyster. This, paired with the fact that there are 40% of adults who have trouble translating complicated English into simpler terms, would mean the Oyster simpler style book summaries could attract these users. All these studies provide benefits to the publisher in a focus of potential format changes.

3. How Oyster Book Review Works

Once the video is taken, Goodwin drags each of the video recordings into the folder of the book review project which can be found in iMovie. He then needs to change the name of each of the video recordings so it is easy to identify what each of them is about and what part of the book it is covering. Later, he grabs joint pictures which represent the content of each of the videos taken from the QRC pages. These pictures will be used as slides in the final outcome of the video with each slide picture appearing for five seconds before changing into the next. After completing all the QRC analysis videos, Goodwin now has a logical and convenient sequence of events.

Goodwin films the QRC with his iPod using an application called Quick Scan; an app which has the function of reading and understanding Quick Response codes. Each time the iPod reads the QRC, it automatically takes him to the specific webpage of which the QRC has come from. Due to this, Brad finds himself going to the same webpages repeatedly when reading the same book whether he is doing Chapters or Popcorn. He selects points of the book which he thinks are unique, important, interesting, or revealing and does a video recording about the QRC page providing a deep analysis of those specific points.

How does the Oyster book review get made? It is a question which needs to be handled methodically because it begins by going into how Quick Response codes work. A Quick Response code is an advanced barcode which stores information such as inventory, prices, and URLs and it is easily read and understood by technology. The video maker for the Oyster book review, Bradley Goodwin, finds a shortcut by using the URL of the book which is usually found on the back cover. He does this by going to the website [Link] and typing in the URL in the space which it gives. He now has a sample of a Quick Response code which when placed in front of the camera will look like a still image. He has to change the still QRC into a moving one by dragging it into Adobe Premier Pro software he uses to create the video and stretching the clip out to make it three and a half minutes long. He states, “I then save it as a 3 or so minute moving image and import it into my iPod using iPhoto. Finally, I am ready to start the filming”.

4. Success Stories from Oyster Book Review Users

HarperCollins Publishers launched a pilot program to market new book releases with Oyster in order to enhance book discovery and increase book sales. The Oyster team worked with title marketers to feature books directly to readers who were most likely to enjoy them, based on their reading habits. The program yielded a remarkable increase in several important KPIs (Key Performance Indicators): the CTR (click-through-rate) on books that were targeted on the home page jumped from 5% to 16%, and books that were targeted in an email to specific audience segments showed an average increase in CTR of 25%. Oyster users who clicked on a targeted title spent an average of 15% more time reading, and news of the increase in sales was well-received at HarperCollins. CP (Consumer Pricing) team members are now using Oyster data to evaluate pricing elasticity of particular genres to inform pricing strategy. Author Ty Roth enjoyed a successful PR campaign for his book So Shelly, which was chosen as a featured title on Oyster. Ty purchased ads for a book trailer he had made, and was pleased to see that for each dollar he spent on the ads, he earned twice as much in book sales. Ty also received encouraging feedback from Oyster users, and he was thrilled to connect directly with a fan who stated “I read So Shelly and loved it! I thought it would be mediocre at best, being a YA novel, but it gripped me from first page to last! Don’t leave me sitting on pins and needles for the sequel!” Coming from a random sampling of Oyster users, this feedback was particularly meaningful to Ty, and it was the fan’s comment about the sequel that solidified Ty’s decision to write one. Ty was so excited by his success on Oyster, that he blogged about it in an effort to share his positive experience with other authors.

5. Conclusion

From what it’s possible to see from this in-depth research, populations of oysters within the Chesapeake Bay have decreased significantly over the past century. The effects of this decrease in oyster population are paralleled by the decrease in water quality within the bay. These findings were through an extensive search not only for general theories on the topic, but for information related to the specific cause and effects surrounding the issue at hand. This research contributed to showing several points to be true, but also sparked several questions including the overall effects of pollution on the bay, and different methods of prevention for the further decrease in water quality. While it is already known that a decrease in oyster population has caused a decrease in water quality through the loss of a major filter feeder, it is worth looking into the specific causes of oyster population decrease, and the effects on water quality to help further prevent this decrease in the future. This can be accomplished through concise monitoring of oyster populations concurrent with water quality, and limiting oyster harvests to the point where it is not below sustainable levels. Either way, it is clear that the importance of oysters on water quality within the bay indicates the need for preventative measures to ensure they do not continue to take a turn for the worse.
